About Us

S. Mohinder Singh and S.Amarjit Singh have born in the family of S.Darshan Singh and Smt. Sujan Kaur. From the beginning both have been ambitious and intelligent and they have completed their graduation from S.D. College, Ambala.

They incorporated Gagan Coal (P) Ltd. in 1993.Earlier they used to supply natural coal from Jharia in Jharkhand. Both are visionary and could fosee that in the year to come the key to success was diversification. So, in the year 2000 GAGAN COAL (P) LTD got itself registered with Reliance Industries Ltd. for the supply of pet coke and within a short span of time the Company became a Leading Coal Handling Agent in India, catering to almost 1,500 Industrial units of India.

The entire turnover of Gagan's Group in the year 2009-2010 was around Rs. 350 crores. S. Mohinder Singh and S. Amarjit Singh are having vast experience in the coal distributorship, manufacturing and trading of coal/pet coke. Gagan Coal (P) Ltd. has its offices in Ambala, Ludhiana, Panipat, Faridabad, Surat, and Jamnagar to ensure best services to its customers. Currently, Gagan Coal (P) Ltd. is the largest seller of Pet Coke in India.

Gagan Coal (P) Ltd. is registered with Central Excise Department for the benefit of customers getting Modvat from Excise Department. It is the endeavor of our company to carry its entire business online in order to save the time of its clients. The second generation of S.Mohinder Singh and S.Amarjit singh, S. Davinder Singh (nephew) son of Late Surjeet Singh is taking care of this business of petroleum coke, who has inherited the vision, the skills and entrepreneurship from his father and uncle.

Product Range

We, Gagan Coal (P) Ltd., are engaged in offering a fine range of Pet Coke . Our range of products are highly useful for many industrial application. The complete range of products are as follows:

  • Petroleum Coke
The Petroleum Coke also known as Petcoke, has several remarkable features from the usage point of view that are:
  • Petcoke can be a good replacement of coal/lignite.
  • It can be used in blend form along with coal/lignite or 100% in AFBC/CFBC boilers.
  • Ash content in Petcoke is much lower than coal/lignite. Hence particulate emissions are always lower as compared to coal

    All About Pet Coke

Use of Petcoke in Atmospheric Fluidised Bed Combustion (AFBC) Boilers...

    What is Petcoke ?

Cocking is basically a thermal cracking process categorized by long residence time as well as the production of petroleum coke (Petcoke), which is a heavy carbon residue. Petcoke is developed by thermal cracking of vacuum residue, produced from crude oil.

In a petroleum refinery, vacuum distillation and atmospheric processes eliminate components from the crude the oil that boil over 500oC. The distillation process segregates the lighter part of the crude oil into various fractions which are processed further into useful refined products such as petrol, kerosene, LPG, diesel, etc. That part of the crude oil which resists boiling during the distillation process even under vacuum is called as the vacuum reside. The vacuum residue comprises of heavy, viscous and complex hydrocarbon molecules.

Gas, liquid and solid products are converted into vacuum residue through the coking process. At times of delayed coking, the heavy feedstock is heated up in a tube still and pumped as quickly as possible to insulated drums wherein the larger molecules are cracked into smaller molecules and residue while producing gas, coke and liquid products. The term 'delayed' is derived from the delay between coking and heating. As coke builds up in the drum, the lighter products during cracking are obtained as overhead vapours and are transported to a fractionator for separation into different products.

Petcoke yield is primarily dependent on the carbon content of feedstock, whereas the structural quality of the Petcoke is influenced chiefly by the type of feed, either virgin crude or cracked products. Fuel grade Petcoke is obtained from vacuum residues that have high sulfur contents. High sulphur Petcoke is utilized as a fuel while low sulphur Petocoke is used in producing anodes.
Fuel grade Petcoke often replaces iignite and coal.

How does Petcoke compare with Lignite ?

Lignite is basically a natural product and fossil fuel Lignite is primarily found at as well as around Panandro, Bhavnagar and Rajpardi in Gujarat, India. Lignite is the first stage of conversion of biomass product and wood into coal. It has fairly high moisture content over 30-40%. The volatile content is also very high approximately over 30-40%. Fixed carbon is somewhat less unlike Petcoke and Anthracite and Sulphur content is 3.0-5.0%. Lignite’s calorific value is very low, about 2800-3800 kcal/ kg as against the calorific value of Petcoke which is 8200-8500 kcal / kg. So, on heat equivalent basis, approximately 2.5 to 3 kg of lignite is replaced with 1 kg of Petcoke. It implies that whereas for the similar heat equivalent just 1 kg of Petcoke with over 75 grams of Sulphur is inserted into the furnace. Hence, the generation of sulphur di oxide with lignite is about 1.4 times higher as against to Petcoke. When Petcoke is utilized as a fuel, limestone is generally injected in the furnace in order to absorb SO2 from the flue gas, the moment it is generated. Some users offer wet lime scrubbers so as to absorb SO2 from the flue gas. Limestone injection is hardly carried out at the time of lignite firing. Thus the emission of SO2 is lesser with Petcoke as against the lignite.

How does Petcoke compare with Coal ?

Coal is also known as a natural fossil fuel. Domestic coal is mainly found in Central, Eastern India as well as in the North East. The content of ash in domestic coal is very high and it can rise up to 45%. Coal is also imported to India mainly from South Africa and Indonesia. The ash content in imported coal is normally about 2 -15%.

One of the main hindrances while using solid fuels is the discharge of suspended particulate matter (SPM) in atmosphere along with the flue gasses. Against an ash content of 15% in imported coal and 35-45% in domestic coal, the ash content in Petcoke is usually less than 1% typically over 0.6-0.7%. Thus, the main problem in furnaces as well as boilers which is release of suspended particulate matter, is non-existent with Petcoke unlike coal.

    Conclusion

Petcoke can be used as a replacement of coal / lignite. It can be used in blend form along with coal / lignite or 100% in AFBC / CFBC boilers.

AFBC Boilers are capable of absorbing SO, and restrict BO, emissions ot the desired levels by limestone injection system.

Ash content in Petcoke is much lower than coal / lignite. Hence particulate emissions are always lower as compared to coal.

    Quality Assurance

Being a quality conscious company, we always strive hard to bring forth qualitative range of Petroleum Coke and Furnace Oil. We source the range from one of the most trusted names in the Indian industries. There is hardly a need for elaboration on this aspect. However, to further ensure quality of the range, we have instituted a quality inspection facility, which is managed by a team of highly qualified quality inspectors. These quality inspectors check the range on several quality parameters such as emission of smoke, air pollution, combustion, ash content, etc.

    Warehousing Facility

To store the procured range, we have established a capacious warehouse with all the necessary amenities. The warehouse has been divided into various sections wherein the different categories of products are kept safely. We have built the warehouse in a way that keeps all the security considerations in place. Since the products are highly combustible, we have incorporated all the fire safety norms inside the warehouse. It has been supplied with fire extinguishers to quell the fire in case it breaks out. It also has strategic exit points for the safe exit of the warehousing staffs in such emergencies.
